De Blackwall Tunnel is een van de drukste wegen tunnels in Europa, met meer dan 100.000 voertuigen die dagelijks door de tunnel rijden. Het zuidelijke deel van de Blackwall-tunnel is gesloten van zaterdag 7 september tot maandag 9 september voor werkzaamheden aan de nieuwe wegligging op de A102. Tijdens de sluiting blijft de Blackwall-tunnel wel open voor noordwaarts verkeer, maar er kunnen af en toe omleidingen zijn op de aanvoerweg. In sommige gevallen kunnen noordwaarts rijdende voertuigen via de zuidelijke tunnel worden omgeleid. Daarnaast vinden er routinematige onderhoudssluitingen van de tunnel plaats van 23:59 uur op zaterdagen tot 07:00 uur op zondagochtenden, die zoals gepland doorgaan.
